The Washington Post’s Beer Madness tournament has begun. There are already a few surprises, perhaps. Budweiser has two competitors advancing to the second round as American Ale beat Peak Organic Amber, and Bud Light Lime took down Leinenkugel’s Honey Weiss. I expect them to fall in due course though. The leading contenders, as I see them, would be Bells Kalamazoo Stout (one of my 2007 favorite beers), Troegs Hopback Amber Ale (which John and I picked to win Beer Madness last year), Dominion Oak Barrel Stout (which I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed and which knocked off last year’s champ, Hook and Ladder Backdraft Brown), and Ommegang Hennepin (another finalist from last year). I am sure there will be more surprises to come though, and I look forward to tasting the Final Four again this year.
