The official winner of the Washington Post Beer Madness was the Hook & Ladder Backdraft Brown. On Saturday night, after two days of drinking good beers in Chicago, my buddy John and I ran through the Final Four in a “blind” taste test. I say “blind” because it was fairly obvious which beers were which when you knew the names and styles of the four. We both picked the Troegs Hopback as our winner. We definitely both liked the Backdraft Brown, but neither of us would have picked the Raven Lager over any of the four, so it surprised me that it was a finalist. I had actually narrowly picked the Ommegang over the Backdraft Brown, but it was a close one. Still, we both liked the hoppy Troegs over the other three finalists.
