There Goes 161

The Nats won in unbelievable style last night, with Jason Bergmann battling John Smoltz. Bergmann gave up only one hit in his six innings of work, but did not get the win since the Nats didn’t score until the 8th inning.
And so it was, around 9:30 last night, I walked in to the office after playing chalk with Ellie, to find that Ronnie Belliard had knocked in the go-ahead run, which Ryan Zimmerman followed with an RBI of his own. The Nats had their first lead (excluding the walk-off hit by Dmitri Young way back when) of the season, and it was up to the team of Jon Rauch and Chad Cordero to nail down the win. Rauch had a 1-2-3 8th, but Cordero struggled in the 9th. To his credit though, he did not let Chipper and Andruw Jones beat him, and worked out of the bases loaded jam for the save.
I never thought I’d get so excited about a team going 2-8.
