Evan had his first taste of avocado last night. He seemed to like it, but a couple of hours later, he vomited it all up. And then some. It took him a good half hour to finally get himself together. It was the first real barfing he's had. Ellie used to spit up and barf all the time. Evan is a fighter though. He got cleaned up, and he was back laughing and smiling 10 minutes later.

Evan had his second "solid" food meal of smooshed bananas last night, his first being on Wednesday. I forgot how babies will try to suck on the spoon instead of eating from it like we do. It is awesome and I have 15 minutes of video from his first time. I will spare you the boredom of the 15 minutes, but I will try to post video some time next week.

I have no idea how we got on this catalog's mailing list, but we are so keeping it around for comic relief. Posh Tots offers insanely expensive stuff for your little one. And if you register your email on their website, you can win a $2500 shopping spree. Which, from what I have seen, will not actually buy anything in their catalog. Allow me to highlight some of my favorite items:
Red Beard's Revenge Pirate Ship Playhouse: $52,000. Look, I get it, pirate stuff is in. But $52 grand in? This ship costs more than the real sailboat I would want to cruise around the Caribbean in retirement.
Sophie's Magical Windmill Playhouse: $38,000. It's a playhouse, not an actual house. You shouldn't have to take out a mortgage to buy it.
Sky King Tricycle in Red: $249. I love the sock monkey riding it in the picture, but sock monkey better get a second job. This is a replica of a 1936 trike, which I guarantee did not cost anywhere near $250. You can also get your kid his own mini Beemer or Mercedes for $7500-9000.
Fairy Tale Princess room: $3600 plus. The bed starts at $3600, and that doesn't include the $1000 sheets.
Fantasy Coach bed: $47,000. Why settle for the cheap Fairy Tale Princess room when your princess can sleep in her own coach for just $47 grand?
I could go on and on, but it's better just to let you browse around their site and gape at the price tags.

It took Evan a bit longer than Ellie, but he managed to roll over for the first time today. Much like Ellie, he could get himself 90% of the way there, over on his side, but his arm was just getting in the way. In his case though, the reason his arm was in the way was that his hand was in his mouth. He does that a lot. He drools like crazy and constantly has his hands in his mouth.
Much like Ellie, he was also pissed when he finally made it over onto his belly. He hasn't quite figured it all out yet, as he's only done it once. Hopefully he will do it again so that Lisa can see it.

A little late, but it took most of the day to get Ellie to finally wear her matching shirt. Apologies for subjecting you to Evan's snotty nose via the Internet.

I noticed that a couple of Evan's recent pictures have been either setup to be just like ones we took with Ellie, or just turned out that way. Recently I posted Evan in his Yankees outfit, just like Ellie wore when she was little. Here are some more examples:

Evan in the Baysox helmet that led to this Ellie classic.

Evan's version of Ellie's Cindy Lou Who. He's more of an Alfalfa.

Ellie was a little older on her first St. Patrick's Day, but I'm sure Evan will be hitting the Guinness hard next year. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! And remember, friends don't let friends drink green beer.

It occurs to me that I'm not being nearly as diligent in keeping Evan's web page updated as I was with Ellie. I know I have some cute pictures at home, so I will definitely get around to that in the near future. Instead this post is to update everyone on the kinds of things Evan is learning to do.
Evan has gotten really good at finding his hand, and then of course, shoving the whole thing in his mouth at once. He's not as enamored with the pacifier as Ellie was, and he can sometimes pacify himself by sucking on his fingers.
He drools. A lot. We've taken to using a trick my friend Ken taught us. His son Logan was also a copious drooler, and they would put a bib on him to soak up the drool and keep from having to change his shirt all the time. We're now doing that with Evan most of the time.
He's getting really close to rolling over. He's not even trying particularly hard, but when he gets on his side, he tries to grab the floor to pull himself over onto his tummy.
During tummy time, he's finally learned to prop himself up with his arms. Previously, he would just lie there with his face in the carpet or the bed, and try to get his knees under him. Somehow I guess he thought that was the way to go, but now it seems he realizes that driving one's face into the floor is not ideal.
Lastly, he's caught a bit of a cold lately, again, most likely the same one Ellie has (damn you, preschool germs!!!). He seems to be susceptible to getting mucous in his eyes as a result, which is ever so fun to deal with on top of the normal snotty noses. Of course, he still does his "cough, cough, arrooo" routine. I came within 15 seconds of catching it on tape the other day, but I turned off the camera just a little bit early. If we get anything out of this darned cold, it's gonna be the cute sighing thing.

We dug up a baby outfit we bought back when we visited Hong Kong, and had Evan try it on. It was a bit of a tight fit, but we got a good picture for the "Year of the Boar."

To tide over those of you who will be here in a couple of weeks, here are the very latest Evan pictures.

Evan's first experience with snow. I think I mentioned before that he didn't seem too impressed with it. He wasn't as mad as the picture makes him seem, just indifferent.

Ellie has been teaching Evan lots of good habits, like how to knock over Lego towers.

Ellie's godfather, John, came for a visit. He's a smart guy, visiting before all the relatives show up.

Obligatory naked pictures. Ellie has been insisting on helping to give Evan his bath, so she just stays in after she's done. It actually works out pretty well.

Yet another flattering shot of the naked butt. And seriously, check out those Thunder Thighs!!!
