Wouldn’t it be nice?

Having previously read Douglas Coupland's Girlfriend in a Coma and Microserfs, I was finally able to get his first book, Generation X from the library. I just started it, but I really like it already. So much stuff I recognize, similar to how I related to Office Space.
I love this quote: "We spend our youth attaining wealth, and our wealth attaining youth." Ironically, today my coworker bought lottery tickets for us.

On to the offseason

No rest for baseball. Now that the Red Sox have won the World Series, it's time to start talking about off-season moves of course!

First up, Sosa to New York... Mets? Apparently the Mets' new GM, Omar Minaya, is glad to be out of the financially strapped Montreal (now Washington) franchise, and is looking to throw around some of the New York cash. Newsday says he is known for "thinking outside the box", but Peter Gammons, this morning on Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio, says there is no way this deal gets done unless Chicago picks up at least half the salary. I concur.

The Mets are also looking to deal for Manny Ramirez, according to Newsday, but that is not bloody likely with Manny coming off a World Series MVP award. By the way, the most underrated Red Sox player this playoffs? Derek Lowe. All he did was shut down the Yankees on two days rest in Game 7 of the ALCS, then shut out the Cards in Game 4, the most likely letdown game for the Sox, to close them out. And he's a free agent. Probably just made himself some good money with those performances.

Magglio Ordonez filed for free agency and is another tempting player.

Wally Backman withdrew himself from consideration for the Mets manager job, and it looks like he may become the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Looks like my regular the-ds.com email address is back up and working again, and most of the emails from the past couple of days have trickled in. Sorry about that.

Everyone still here?

I can't believe the world didn't end!

Congrats to the Boston Red Sox. 8 wins in a row to win their World Series, finally.

So, it should be at least 10 years before we have to listen to their whining again.

Bill Clinton: your next UN Secretary General

Don't laugh, according to this article, he is interested, and after Kofi Annan steps down, he could have enough support within the UN to get the job...

If you've been trying to email either me or Lisa for the past couple of days, it appears that our email server is not working properly, so we probably haven't gotten your mail. For now, if you want to get in touch with me, send one to my Gmail address (first name.last name@gmail.com). I'll send any emails for Lisa on to her as well.

Danger Will Robinson!

So the Red Sox have gone ahead 3-0 in the World Series. I don't think anyone thinks they will choke like the Yankees did in the ALCS. So consider this a warning. Tonight is a full lunar eclipse, and the Red Sox are trying to win the World Series for the first time since 1918. You don't have to be Nostradamus to see that the world is coming to an end tonight.

As a treat to the faithful readership, I bring you the almost scoop of the day/week/millisecond: the new iPod Photo! For just $499, the 40 GB version can be yours. Yep, before I can even get my free iPod, it's already obsolete to the new spiffy color screen version.

Oh, and if you're interested, there some other version that U2 is pimping. It's black. Pictures ahoy!

We’re number 1!

After slipping from the number one spot for a while, DC is back on top, once again scoring the highest murder rate among large cities. Ironically, the murder rate actually dropped, and continues to drop (it's projected to be its lowest this year since 1986).

Oh, how the mighty have fallen

Mark Ingram, for MSU Spartan and NY Giant, sentenced to a year in jail, for stealing a credit card from a golf course. At least I could respect him when he got busted for cashing $300k in phony checks and laundering $200k. But stealing a lousy credit card?

And Cecil Fielder, former Detroit Tiger and NY Yankee, is the new Pete Rose. He lost everything to gambling. Let that be a lesson to you kids.
