More photos online now.

Also, Joe Trippi was online with the Washington Post for a chat today.

I do have one question though, after looking at all the pictures from the different events: does he always roll up his shirt sleeves now???

Dean rally in Falls Church

August 25, 2003 · Posted in Washington · 2 Comments

On Saturday, I attended the "Sleepless Summer" event in Falls Church, a rally for Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont, and Presidential candidate. While it wasn't quite as cool as the Ralph Nader super rallies in 2000, it was a nice little grass-rootsy kind of event. They estimated about 4000 people showed up.

Ahnold’s entry

I find it highly amusing that everyone is actually taking Arnold Schwarzenegger's run for California governor somewhat seriously. These are many of the same people who blasted Tim Robbins and Janeane Garofalo and Michael Moore for speaking out against the war, saying that they are just entertainers and they don't know enough to talk about such things. They're also blasting Arriana Huffington for not having the smarts or background to handle the world's fifth largest economy (California's budget). I guess the difference between them and Arnold is that he's not actually telling anyone where he stands on any issues. He's just out to "terminate" Gray Davis. It's a damn shame too, because with the compressed 8 week schedule until the recall election, he might actually manage to stay quiet on most of the issues so that everyone votes for him purely on his name recognition.
Arnold, if you want people to take you seriously, start talking now. Otherwise, you'll just turn California into an even bigger circus.
Janeane, Tim, and Michael, keep speaking your minds. You're what makes America great.

Report on the WMD Trailers

August 13, 2003 · Posted in Washington · Comment

I must have missed this report coming out last week, but it appears that the Defense Intelligence Agency engineers disagree with the CIA/DIA official white paper from May 28 which concluded that the trailers found in Iraq could not have been used for anything other than WMD chemical and biological manufacturing. They know believe it is just as likely that they were used for producing hydrogen for weather balloons, just like the Iraqi scientists said all along.
Hopefully, this will come out in an official report very soon, because it undermines President Bush's statement "We found them (WMD)."

Driving the Intrepid

August 11, 2003 · Posted in Personal · Comment

I drove the old Intrepid for the first time in a while today (Lisa is carpooling in to work with a friend in the new Civic hybrid). Man, what a difference! That car is just plain huge. I had to remember how to park all over again.
Anyway, we're just plain loving the hybrid, driving all over with it. But driving the Intrepid reminded me just how comfortable a big car is. Any longer trips will be driven with the Intrepid, I think.

Hybrid pictures

To dispel all the myths, I've put up some pictures of the hybrid. It really is just like a regular car, I swear! You don't plug it in. The gas engine does most of the work, and the electric only kicks in when it needs to.
Mileage so far is around 39 mpg through 380+ miles of driving, mostly side streets, some highway. It should improve as we get into fall and winter and we can turn off the A/C. Still, much better than the 25 mpg that we got on the best days with the Intrepid.
